What can I do to help?
If you can't rescue or adopt, there are still plenty of things that you can do to help shelter dogs:

• Help cross-post urgent dogs to forums and rescue groups. It's the least-expensive way to help give the dogs' exposure and it does save lives. There are many rescue forums, mailing lists and groups you can join.
• Volunteer with a local shelter or favorite breed rescue group. There are numerous ways to help support their efforts to rescue dogs.
• Sponsor a dog. I sponsored Cordell, the Yellow Lab on the left. It enabled him to be taken in by a local Lab rescue and he was later placed in a good home.
• Donate to a favorite rescue or shelter. They are always in need of funds to cover food and veterinary expenses. Items, like blankets or dog beds, can also be donated. And many donations are tax-deductable!
• If you can, foster a dog. Many rescue groups are in dire need of foster homes to place dogs until they can be adopted.
